LAUNCH OF THE 5th NATIONAL HIV AND AIDS RESEARCH CONFERENCE (NHARCON 2023) AT THE MINISTRY OF INFORMATION PRESS CENTER ON 30th AUGUST 2022 AT 9:30 AM
THEME “ACHIEVING HIV EPIDEMIC CONTROL AMIDST EMERGING HEALTH THREATS”
The National HIV and AIDS Research Conference which is held every four years is organized by the Ghana AIDS Commission together with its partners. The 2023 edition is the fifth to be organized by the Commission. NHARCON 2023 is expected to serve as a platform to share ideas in support of the implementation of the current National Strategic Plan 2021-2025. It also forms part of GAC’s mandate to disseminate and share HIV and AIDS strategic information with its stakeholders and partners in the implementation of the National Response.
The Ghana AIDS Commission together with its partners is committed to ending HIV and AIDS and other emerging diseases. Public health threats such as covid-19 continue to have a catastrophic impact on the most vulnerable communities around the world and threaten progress made in mitigating the impact of HIV and TB globally. This creates a gap in the fight to mitigate the impacts on lifesaving programmes, leading to fragile health systems being overwhelmed. Even under the threat of public health emergencies, we must not relent in our goal for an AIDS-free Ghana. The country must rely on the dynamics of recent scientific advances, on a plea that will respond to the mobilization of internal and endogenous resources.
This led to the NHARCON 2023 Theme “Achieving HIV Epidemic Control Amidst Emerging Health Threats” which seeks to consider the impact of HIV and that of other public health threats and how to lessen the effects of these diseases.
The following objectives seek to address HIV and its related diseases such as Tuberculosis, Covid-19, STIs and Non-communicable diseases.
• To share knowledge and best practices for HIV interventions
• To disseminate findings from relevant research undertaken in Ghana as well as globally
• To provide the opportunity for researchers from around the world to share the latest scientific advances in the field, learn from one another’s expertise
• To review strategies for advancing the fast track 95-95-95 strategy and treat all policy
• To discuss and identify future programme strategies and research priorities in light of the evidence and best practices
The Ghana AIDS Commission together with its partners will launch the National HIV and AIDS Research Conference (NHARCON) 2023 at the Ministry of Information Press Centre on 30th August, 2022. NHARCON 2023 is a hybrid conference which is scheduled for 25th – 28th April 2023 and will host in-person and virtual delegates.
NHARCON is gathering all who are working in the field of Health as well as leaders, people living with HIV and others committed to ending the epidemic. It will be a tremendous opportunity for researchers, and clinicians from around the world to share the latest scientific advances, learn from one another’s expertise, and develop strategies for advancing all facets of our collective efforts to end AIDS by 2030.
