About the Legal Unit

The Legal Unit of the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) provides strategic legal leadership and support to ensure that the Commission operates within the framework of the laws of Ghana and international obligations relating to HIV and AIDS. The Unit plays a critical role in safeguarding the Commission’s legal interests, promoting compliance, managing legal risks, and supporting the effective implementation of the Commission’s mandate. The Unit also contributes to policy development, legal advocacy, institutional governance, and stakeholder engagement to strengthen Ghana’s national HIV and AIDS response.

Collaborates with the Office of the Attorney-General, regulatory bodies, development partners, and other stakeholders on legal matters.

Maintains a comprehensive database and repository of legal documents, legislation, policies, and case records relevant to the Commission.

Coordinates legal risk management and advises on measures to mitigate legal and reputational risks.

Supports the formulation, review, and implementation of policies, strategies, and legal frameworks.

Leads legal advocacy initiatives that advance the Commission’s objectives and promote the rights of persons affected by HIV and AIDS.

Ensures compliance with statutory, regulatory, and governance requirements across the Commission.

Provides legal guidance on employment, procurement, data protection, and institutional governance issues.

Supports the preparation and review of Board papers, governance documents, and corporate policies.

Contributes to the preparation of annual work plans, budgets, reports, and performance assessments of the Unit.
