Focus Areas
A Public Health Approach to Service Delivery
In line with its mandate, the Commission adopts a public health approach in providing a wide range of services to persons infected and affected by HIV, key population, prisons inmate, orphans and vulnerable children and the general population through the community based system and health system.
Broad categories of services provided include HIV Prevention Programme, HIV Testing Services, Treatment, Care and Support Services, Prevention of Mother-To-Child Transmission, Services to People Living with HIV, Home-Based Care, Services to Orphans and Vulnerable Children, Advocacy for Human Rights, Community Systems Strengthening and Health Systems Strengthening.
HIV Prevention
Comprehensive prevention programs, including education, condom distribution, and PrEP access across all regions.
PMTCT Programs
Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission programs integrated into maternal and child health services.
Education & Awareness
To provide leadership and coordination for the implementation of Ghana’s National Strategic Plan on HIV and AIDS.
Research & Monitoring
Epidemiological surveillance, operational research, and monitoring & evaluation of the national response.
Testing Services
Free, confidential HIV testing and counseling at health facilities and mobile outreach locations nationwide.
Treatment & Care
Ensuring access to antiretroviral therapy and quality healthcare services for all people living with HIV.
Where We Work
National Coordination, Local Delivery
The Secretariat of the Ghana AIDS Commission is established to provide technical and administrative support to the Commission and its Technical Committees. As the executing/implementing arm of the Commission, it is the focal point for HIV and AIDS policy research, program planning, implementation and monitoring for national, regional and district level activities.
Our head office is located at the 4th Floor, Ghana Olympic Committee Building, near Ridge Hospital Accra. The GAC also has an allocation of dedicated experienced full-time technical experts with competencies and skills in HIV programming to support regions and districts. The Technical Support Unit office is located within the Regional Coordinating Council of each region
