Right to Information (RTI)

The Ghana AIDS Commission upholds the constitutional right of every person to access information held by public institutions, in line with the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989).

Introduction

The Right to Information Act gives you the right to request information from any public institution in Ghana, subject only to limited exemptions provided by law. To make a request to the Ghana AIDS Commission, download and complete the RTI Request Form below and submit it to our designated RTI Officer.

“All persons shall have the right to information, subject to such qualifications and laws as are necessary in a democratic society.”

In compliance with the Act, the Ghana AIDS Commission has established a Right to Information Desk within the Administration Division, operated by a designated Information Officer.

However, as stipulated in the Act, access to certain information may be subject to exemptions necessary for the protection of public interest.

ACCESS TO INFORMATION MANUAL

The Right to Information Act mandates all public institutions to publish an Access to Information Manual for public inspection. The Manual is available at the Front Desk of the Ghana AIDS Commission and can also be downloaded here.

 

EXEMPTIONS

In accordance with the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989), certain categories of information are exempt from disclosure, including:

  1. Information relating to the President or Vice President of Ghana
  2. Information affecting the security of the State
  3. Information relating to Cabinet proceedings
  4. Personal information
  5. Information relating to law enforcement and public safety
  6. Information affecting international relations
  7. Information relating to economic and other national interests
  8. Information relating to taxation
  9. Economic information of third parties
  10. Internal working information of public institutions
  11. Parliamentary privilege, fair trial, and contempt of court matters
  12. Privileged information
  13. Information whose disclosure is contrary to the protection of public interest
